The things I find on Friday!
The weather in Byron Bay is so mild that even though we finally installed air-conditioning in our house…. We haven’t yet have time to enjoy the instant warm air it provides. This week I travelled throughout the Northern Rivers region to photograph more new recipes to add to the successful Byron Bay cookbook! Fist I took the road north to Kingscliff and chatted to Doug the executive chef who runs the kitchen at the totally renovated Kingscliff Beach Hotel, a fabulous venue for afternoon drinks or if you are planning a big party of wedding a great place to celebrate.
Restaurants and hotels in Australia keep on surprising me with their stunning locations, another one that is fabulous for sunset dining is the Ballina RSL where I photographed two new recipes, a prawn curry and and something that always fancies me…Mussels! I will share the recipes with you soon.
I always make sure I have plenty of great dishes, wooden boards and fabrics with me when I am shooting restaurant food, quite often the restaurant plates are white, large and square with can be tricky for me to shoot the food.
I had a few plates from the golden brown fox with me on my tour and when at Rae’s in Watego, Guy the talented young chef was very intrigued by them, there is something special about eating your food from a hand thrown plate. I will share the link below.
My husband and I love dining out and a place we always return to with or without friends is The Italian at Pacific, where head-chef Will looks after us and let us try some of his newest dishes. Totally my pleasure that this week I was able to photograph one of his creations. I have to say creations cause Will really plates the food like an artist, using the colours and shapes of produces beyond normal food on a plate. So styling wise I decided to let the food be the hero and it ended up with just the dish.
