Photography and Instagram are so interlinked and no wonder. It is instantly satisfying to post, photograph or look at delicious food. Whether we are out with friends or simply enjoying a special treat in our own delightful company. The joy of sharing beautifully plated food images is abundant.

Recently I was working with a great team of foodies on a shoot for a client. And shooting not just with my brand new Canon MarkIII, but also with my Iphone. And it made me think what on earth I used to do with the time in between one plate of food and the next. Did we just hang about, chat or got impatient? As my food photography team has been working in the industry for quite some time we all referred back to waiting for polaroids to check for light and changes that needed to be made. How easy and fast is it these days with tethered shooting and instant viewing for the food stylist and photographer to quickly make changes to our liking.

A costly procedure in the olden days as polaroids where not cheap. Polaroids where quite often placed in scrapbooks with notes made to it, or stuck on the wall or fridge for months. And shared that way with friends and family. Instagram gives us the opportunity to share this little postcards or “polaroids” with everyone we like to connect with. Immediately we see our fellow foodies and followers telling us how excited they are with our results.
I love looking at food photographers and food stylists instagram sites and find it a very helpful way to see what is trending and happening in the world of food. Globally food speaks in different languages and it is fabulous to be able to see what is happening in Japan or Sweden. I use these influences to keep me creative in my own process of food photography.
