Eat Clean published by Plum books
Luke Hines latest book Eat Clean published by Plum books Melbourne. I was super privileged to meet up with Luke Hines for his latest book: Eat Clean. The cookbook features healthy paleo based food but with a laid back feel. Love it when things are not to strict and we can all enjoy healthy food and living!
Lifestyle photography to enhance cookbooks is such a wonderful style to add to my food photo’s. It is a way of creating an extra feel to the food I normally photograph. An inside to the cook behind the recipes. Luke not only has a great vision on healthy food, he has great knowledge regarding healthy living in general. A solid background in fitness, a knack of dealing with people and a healthy dose of humor.
Early morning, and I mean early, before sunrise we meet at Cabarita Beach. Still dark, we expect to be just with a few other early risers on the beach. But to our surprise we get quite an audience. Due to Surf competitions, our planned “deserted” beach seems to be quite busy! You wouldn’t say that looking at the images but it was rather crowded.
Surf life style photography is abundant on the east coast of Australia, within a few meters we find ocean, headland, calm backdrops for the shots planned. Luke is a good sport and doesn’t mind running up and down the beach a couple of times. My background of health and fitness photography comes in handy. Aiming for pushing the button at the right time so body, arms and legs look all well balanced is a skill I haven’t forgotten yet.
Our food and healthy living story took us to the lush hinterland. A short drive from Cabarita beach. Here we set up for shots around the various meadows and crop fields. You will find a lot of road stalls selling local produce, first of all this is a great way to look for fresh produce and secondly it provides a great backdrops for photoshoots.
Always a pleasure seeing the shots in the cookbook. Special thanks to Clare Marshall at Plum Books, who contacted me to work with Luke! Many thanks to Kristine Duran-Thiessen who recommended me to Plum. Luke Hines for endless patience and always a great smile. Images come to life with design, so thanks to Kirby Armstrong and typesetting by Pauline Haas. The beautiful food images on the spreads are by Mark Roper, styled by Lee Blaylock. Two talented people who I admire.
